Sony's Ghostbusters reboot opened at the #2 spot for its North American opening weekend.
The movie, directed by Paul Feig, scared up a sizeable $46-Million from 3,962 different locations, however, it is a rather lukewarm start considering the movie's $144-Million budget.
Regardless, Sony executives are already promising further installments, noting that the reboot scored the best opening for a live-action comedy since Pitch Perfect 2 raked in $69.2-Million last May. The movie will need to stay strong across the globe if this promise of an expanded Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe is to come to fruition.
Internationally, Ghostbusters opened to $19.1-Million, bringing its worldwide take up to $63.7-Million. The film took the top spot in the United Kingdom with $6.1-Million and Australia with $3.7-Million respectively.
Sony says they are ecstatic with the movie's opening and feel they'll have plenty of room to run in the next few weeks being the only big comedy currently in the marketplace.
Starring Melisa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, Ghostbusters is playing in theatres now.
