Ever since it was first announced that an animated take on Alan Moore's iconic 1988 graphic novel The Killing Joke would be turned into an animated feature, fans have been awaiting its release with eager anticipation. It has since screened at San Diego Comic Con and arrived on Digital HD as of yesterday.
However, the movie was also released in a limited number of theaters across the United States and Canada leading up to its release - sending fans flocking in droves to the cinema to see the latest DC Animated Original Movie, the very first one to land an R rating, on the big screen.
So far, the animated feature, which features the voice talents of Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Tara Strong and Ray Wise, has raked in $3.175-Million Domestically, bringing the flick to the #3 box office spot behind Justin Lin's Star Trek Beyond and the animated feature The Secret Life Of Pets.
Batman: The Killing Joke topped the likes of Lights Out, Ghostbusters and Ice Age: Collision Course on Monday, proving it was more then capable of battling it out for box office bucks despite a limited release across 1,325 theaters.
The original graphic novel is considered by many to be the definitive origin story for The Joker and an essential addition to any DC Comics library. Batman: The Killing Joke arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD Tuesday. August 2nd.
