The Batman is officially happening! The solo movie will serve as part of the ever growing DC Expanded Universe and will see Ben Affleck suiting up as the new Caped Crusader once again. During the Warner Bros. Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic Con this afternoon, the film was briefly discussed. It was also officially revealed that Affleck will direct the movie.
“It’s really inspiring. It’s like taking on a great play. It’s been reinvented so many times, it’s terrifying but it’s exciting,” Affleck said while in attendance at the con today.
It was earlier this year that The Batman was first teased at CinemaCon. During that event, it was teased that Affleck was one of the DC Expanded Universe filmmakers, but it was never officially confirmed until this afternoon.
“I have a script, we’re still working on it, and I’m not happy enough with it yet to actually go out there and make a Batman movie, for which I have the highest of standards, I would say,” Affleck shared with reporters during a Justice League set visit last month. “That’s something that would have to pass a very high bar for me. It’s not just like, ‘Yeah, that might be fun, let’s go try this out.’”
No official release date for The Batman has been announced at this time.
Affleck will next be seen as Batman in Zack Snyder's Justice League in 2017.
