Shortly before Suicide Squad hit theaters, it was announced that Warner Bros. and DC Films had a spinoff in development that would center around Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, and feature several female heroes and villains from throughout the DC Universe.
And now it sounds as though that project is moving forward at full speed.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Robbie has signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros. to produce and develop new films under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner. Partners Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr will also be working alongside the Aussie actress in this new endeavour .
The studio has built a positive relationship with the 26-year old Margot Robbie, who starred in The Wolf Of Wall Street and The Legend Of Tarzan before becoming one of the key factors as to why Suicide Squad grossed over $700-Million worldwide.
Aside from the Harley Quinn spinoff, she also has Queen Of The Air set up at Warner Bros., which she will executive produce and star in.
This first-look deal underlines the studio's renewed focus on female-driven storytelling following in the footsteps of such upcoming projects as Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman and Ocean’s Ocho, a female-centric take on Ocean’s 11 that will feature an A-list female cast.
There is no doubt that Margot Robbie is quite the impressive talent and we can't wait to see what she brings to future projects - especially that Harley Quinn spinoff.
