Today, Apple and Nintendo made an announcement that fans the world over have been waiting to hear for a long time - Super Mario is headed to the App Store.
Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the famed Nintendo mascot, was on hand today during the Apple keynote event to announce the release of Super Mario Run. Made specifically for iOS, this new game simple to use as Mario automatically runs to the right and the user only has to tap the screen to make the character jump to avoid obstacles or hit objects.
Miyamoto also revealed that the game will have a one-time cost and will be available for the Holiday Season, although a specific release date was not officially announced.
“We could not be more honored that Nintendo chose to bring Super Mario to iOS first,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said during the launch event, thus indicating that the game will be coming to other mobile devices in the future
While it may not be the traditional side-scroller fans were hoping for, the game still sounds both fun and intriguing, and is something that has been a long time coming. Fans wanted Mario on their mobile devices and it looks as though Nintendo has finally heard their plea.
