This Fall, Teen Wolf alum Tyler Hoechlin makes his DC TV debut joining the cast of Supergirl and suiting up as the Man Of Steel himself. Hoechlin, who has been a fan of the character ever since he watched Dean Cain's portrayal in Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman, recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the type of Superman the show will be bringing viewers in Season 2.
“It’s Superman as I think he was intended to be,” he said. “Which is just an incredible symbol of hope to kids that they can do anything, that they can be good people, and that good people can triumph over evil. You don’t have to be dark and brooding and always in this state of masculine toughness. He sits in that very hopeful and optimistic place that Kara tends to be in.”
Hoechlin also says everyone involved with the show wanted to do their own version of Kal-El.
“Obviously [we want to] honor the tradition that is the character without really emulating anything that somebody else has done before,” Hoechlin says, noting he avoided watching old Superman movies after being cast. “I didn’t want to have any temptation to imitate.”
Hoechlin will make his Supergirl debut Monday, October 10th on The CW.
