Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy has revealed that she is eager to recruit a promising female director to helm a future installment of the Star Wars franchise.
"We want to make sure that when we bring a female director in to do Star Wars, they're set up for success," Kathleen Kennedy said in a recent interview with Variety. "They're gigantic films, and you can't come into them with essentially no experience," she said.
Up to this point, each film in the iconic series has been directed by a man.
Kennedy adds that the plan at Lucasfilm was "to focus in on people we would love to work with... then pull them in when the time is right."
Earlier this year, British director Amma Asante claimed women are rarely trusted with big-budget movies. "It comes down to who they feel safe about in terms of flying the plane," she said.
Well, we're guessing, thanks to the likes of such upcoming films as Wonder Woman, that is all about to change! Which female director would you like to see take the reigns on a Star Wars film?
The next chapter of the franchise, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, arrives December 16th.
