The DC TV Universe is about to be invaded! Beginning tomorrow night, Green Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and others will come together in an effort to save the world from a hostile alien race known as The Dominators. Horrific beings bent on claiming Earth as their own, these vile creatures have no idea what they're in for when they cross paths with the heroes of the DC Universe.
However, this is far from the first time that these creatures have terrorized our world.
Just who are the galactic conquerors known as The Dominators?
First appearing in the pages of Adventure Comics #361 back in October 1967, The Dominators are an alien race from the outer cosmos of the universe. Collectively known as The Dominion, these beings are highly technologically advanced, and live in a rigid hierarchical society, in which one's caste is determined by the size of a red circle on one's forehead. These creatures are also master geneticists capable of manipulating the meta-gene to enhance members of their own caste.
During the 20th Century, The Dominators invaded Earth, seeing the unpredictable evolutionary tendencies of metahumans as a threat to the universe. Despite their best efforts to conquer, the war would begin to turn in favour of Earth's inhabitants. When this started, a single Dominator unleashed a Gene Bomb, which was detonated in the planet's atmosphere. The weapon caused many metahumans to loose control of their powers before slipping into a coma before dying.
Given that the purpose behind this invasion was to harness the metahuman's powers for their own personal use, this rogue Dominator was imprisoned and sentenced to death by his own people. Prior to his execution however, a small group lead by the Martian Manhunter were successful in stealing information from the creature's mind that allowed them to reverse the effects of the Gene Bomb and restore many metahumans back to full health.
Despite their defeat, The Dominators soon made it clear that they weren't finished with Earth.
Years later, The Dominators would create their own heroes. Done in an effort to examine how humans tended to gain powers of their own, the aliens put them through a murderous obstacle course on the partly correct theory that the stress would active their 'meta-genes' and cause superpowers. Interestingly, not all of The Dominators supported the policies of their ruling caste.
When the Daxamite Mon-El discovered plans for a second invasion of earth, and thousands of humans held in genetic experimentation tanks, he led a lengthy campaign in an effort to free them. It was during this campaign that Dominators from the Diamond Caste aided Mon-El in rescuing this modified humans.
The aliens would get a taste of their own medicine when their homeworld fell under siege from the massive horde of Starro the Conqueror. In the end, despite putting up an impressive fight, the planet fell to Starro and its entire population were converted into Starro's mindslaves.
Over a century later, The Dominators fought a long war with the United Planets.
Several attempts to establish peace were attempted, but thwarted by a rouge group known as The Unkillables; descendants of people from Earth and their leader who was another Dominator who was opposed to peace. The war would continue to expand and engulfed more worlds, but in the end, peace with The Dominion was eventually achieved.
As mighty as they may be, it's clear The Dominators mean business. No doubt, they'll see the merahumans of the DC TV Universe as a threat and attempt to harness their abilities to aid in their conquest of galactic dominance. Will our heroes emerge victorious and save the planet from the scourge of The Dominion? Tune in this week to find out!
