Multiverse 101: Who Is Roulette?

This week on Supergirl fans were introduced to the mysterious Roulette, a woman responsible for running an underground alien fight club in National City. As striking as the snake tattoo wrapped around her body, she is so well connected that the NCPD was forced to release her mere moments after putting her in custody. Just who is Roulette?

Created by Geoff Johns and Derec Aucoin, Roulette first appeared in the pages of JSA Secret Files #2 back in 2001. Also known as Veronica Sinclair, she is the daughter of a Golden Age villain who ran a casino and was known to have crossed paths with the original Mr. Terrific, Terry Sloan.

Following in her father's footsteps, Roulette runs her own casino known as The House. This establishment also doubles as a superhuman gladiatorial arena where combatants are forced to battle against one another while various villains bet on the outcome.

In her DC Comics debut, Roulette was successful in capturing most of the Justice Society Of America members, and forced the group to battle each other in various forms of combat. However, despite her best efforts, the heroes were able to escape. Roulette was then forced to use special devices to teleport the JSA members away before she could be captured and her casino shut down.

One year later, Dr. Mid-Nite infiltrates The House in an effort to get information from Roulette regarding purported organ-napping. She agrees to give the hero the information he seeks, but only if he is able to best her bodyguard. Mid-Nite is victorious and Roulette gives him the information he is looking for. After he leaves, Roulette calls the owner of the surgical clinic and informs her of Dr. Mid-Nite's investigation into the matter.

While the majority of combatants have survived her gladiatorial arena, Roulette's underground operations have claimed numerous heroes over the years. Her casino features a wall of fallen heroes, which contains the names of those who were unable to escape The House with their lives. These include the likes of Firebrand, Impala, Maxi-Man, New Guardians member Ram, Flyboy and the Hybrid.

While she may not have any superpowers, it's clear that Veronica Sinclair is not someone you want to mess with. Here's hoping it won't be too long before she surfaces in the DC TV Universe once again, as we can't wait to see how much more of her history is explored! And, given her fascination with pitting aliens against one another in gladiatorial combat, we can't help but wonder if she'll be getting her hands on a Dominator following the events of the upcoming crossover event.

Hey, if she's that hooked up that the NCPD can't bring her in, who's to say that getting a hold of one of those yellow-skinned monsters isn't possible?

Until next time, Infinite Earths fans!
