The critics may have hated it from the get-go, but David Ayer's Suicide Squad proved it had some serious legs at the box office! The film completed its theatrical run this week, bringing in a huge bankroll of $745-Million. This is made even more impressive if you consider that the DC action flick never saw a release in China.
Here in North America, the movie raked in $325-Million, which puts it just behind Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice and its $330-Million take. Overseas, Ayer's comic book blockbuster took in an additional $420-Million again, without a release in China.
Not too shabby for a film that featured some of the lesser known characters of the DC Universe.
Warner Bros. is, no doubt, very happy with the success of Suicide Squad, which not only enjoyed the biggest August opening in box office history, but also bypassed the likes of Iron Man, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to become the 75th highest grossing movie of all time!
Now, bring on the Extended Cut!
It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Adam Beach, Karen Fukuhara, Scott Eastwood, Ben Affleck and Ezra Miller, Suicide Squad arrives on Digital HD November 15th and on Blu-Ray and DVD December 13th.
