Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is on track to dominate the box office this weekend.
The highly anticipated prequel flick brought in $29-Million from Thursday night previews ahead of its nationwide debut on Friday. That's officially the largest Thursday night debut of 2016, ahead of the $27.7-Million earned by Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice in March and the $25-Million brought in by Captain America: Civil War in May.
Granted, the Gareth Edwards film didn't bring in as much as The Force Awakens. J.J. Abrams' sequel, which kicked off a brand new core saga in December 2015, began its box office run with a giant $57-Million. Despite this, the Rogue One number is nothing to sneer at as the movie is on track for a very impressive $140-Million opening weekend here in North America.
Taking place between the events seen in Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope, the new film follows a band of brave Rebel Alliance operatives attempting to steal the plans to the Empire's first Death Star battle station.
Starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelsen, and Alan Tudyk, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in theatres now!
Will you be seeing it this weekend?
