The 1990's saw the release of the first, and only, live-action Super Mario Bros. movie.
While fans had high hopes when this one was initially announced back in 1992, the final product could not have been more further removed from the source material. From its gritty architecture to its humanoid take on Bowser Koopa, this film was just wrong on so many different levels.
Despite being a commercial flop when it hit the big screen in 1993, people's perception of Super Mario Bros. has mellowed over time and it has gone on to acquire quite the cult following in the years since its release. Because of this, it is getting another home video release! That's right, Paisanos! Next year, Super Mario Bros. is getting a Blu-Ray version - complete with a steel book edition. Check it out below...
Included with this new version is a 60-minute documentary with input from producer Roland Joffe, co-directors Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel and actors John Leguizamo and Richard Edson. Also included will be archived interviews with Bob Hoskins and producer Jake Eberts, alongside storyboards and behind-the-scenes features.
Expect more information regarding the film's release in the days to come!
Will you be adding Super Mario Bros. to your Home Video library?
