Walton Goggins, known for roles in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Predators, is in final negotiations to join MGM and GK Films reboot of Tomb Raider opposite actress Alicia Vikander.
Roar Uthaug will direct the movie, which is slated for release on March 16, 2018.
Goggins will play the main villain of the new film, which will follow a younger version of globe-trotting adventurer Lara Croft on one of her very first missions as the Tomb Raider. The newest chapters of the video game franchise will influence the upcoming reboot.
Eidos released the original Tomb Raider video game back in 1996. Since then, 35-Million units have been sold. In 2013, Square Enix released a reboot featuring a younger Lara being sent off on her first big adventure.
Paramount’s two films, starring Angelina Jolie as the famed archaeologist, were released in 2001 and 2003 respectively and grossed $432 million worldwide.
