Japan finally saw the release of Doctor Strange this weekend, where it took the #1 spot at the box office with $4.5-Million. This was the very last market the movie had to debut in before preparing for its home video release, and, as a result, now sits at $664-Million worldwide.
While it may not have reached $700-Million, this is an excellent number for a Marvel character outside of the regular Avengers roster of Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor. In fact, the number is so good that you can pretty much bet the studio is already planning a sequel.
Doctor Strange has now passed the worldwide box office cume of fellow MCU entries like The Incredible Hulk ($263-Million), Captain America: The First Avenger ($371-Million), Thor ($449-Million), Ant-Man ($520-Million), Iron Man ($585-Million), and Iron Man 2 ($623.9-Million).
Fans will next see the Sorcerer Supreme in Thor: Ragnarok later this year.
