It was back in 2014 that we learned Dwayne Johnson would be playing the DC Extended Universe version of Black Adam. While we may not know much else about the Shazam movie, one thing that's for sure is that DJ can't can't wait to suit up as the famed DC villain.
In a recent YouTube Q&A, Johnson was asked by fans why he wanted the role of Black Adam.
“I have loved the role of Black Adam,. I love that he starts off as a slave, that he felt like he was wronged. I have just loved that backstory. I think that Black Adam has always been, to me, the most intriguing superhero.”
We can't say we disagree.
While the movie is currently scheduled for release in 2019, it was in a 2015 interview that Johnson revealed we may see the movie sooner than expected.
“No, I don’t think it is going to be that far away. It’s going to be earlier than that. I don’t think 2019.”
Then, this past August, Johnson’s producing partner Dany Garcia spoke about how the team behind the movie had no problem with taking their time, as opposed to rushing the film into theaters.
“We don’t mind taking our time. We’re being very careful with each act and scene to go back and layer in as much as possible. We’ve got so many wonderful superhero franchises out there… we don’t need to run away from them and say ‘we can’t be that,’ but it’s important to understand what are the best aspects of a Batman [movie] versus Avengers versus Deadpool? What are the elements people are responding to? We want to move the needle.”
Shazam is currently slated for release on Friday April 5, 2019.
