Sad news to report this evening as Richard Hatch, star of the original Battlestar Galactica, has passed away at the age of 71 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Hatch passed away at 1:30pm this afternoon.
“I will always remember him fondly for his inspiring sense of youthful wonder, his boundless passion for creative expression, and his huge, kind heart,” his manager Michael Kaliski said.
Hatch was best known for playing Captain Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica series, which aired from 1978-1979. The role earned him a Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a television series. Hatch would also feature in the 2003 Syfy remake as Tom Zarek.
Throughout his career, Hatch also appeared in the likes of CHiPs, Baywatch and MacGyver. He also wrote five Battlestar Galactica novels and became a fixture at comic and Sci-Fi events.
Hatch is survived by his son Paul, and his brother John.
Our thoughts are with Mr. Hatch's friends and family during this difficult time.
Rest in Peace, Captain Apollo! Thanks for guiding us across the stars!
