It was only yesterday that word broke of Greg Berlanti's Black Lightning moving from Fox to The CW. While talks were ongoing at that point, Entertainment Weekly has now learned that the newest addition to the DC TV Universe has been given a pilot order over at its new home.
Mara Brock Akil Salim Akil will be working alongside Berlanti and Sarah Schechter on the new series, which will be the first to feature a black superhero in the lead role.
The Akils will write and executive produce the project, which was initially picked up over at Fox this past Fall. That network ended up passing on the show as they felt it didn't fit in with "its already crowded genre drama."
Should The CW order a pilot, and series, it would make Black Lightning the fifth entry in the DC TV Arrowverse - which also includes the likes of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends Of Tomorrow respectively.
Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.
How do you feel about Black Lightning joining the Arrowverse?
We're super stoked to see this universe grow and can't wait for a five-way crossover!
