Mel Gibson Sought To Direct Suicide Squad Sequel

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Warner Bros. is looking to tap Mel Gibson to direct the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel. Both sides are in early talks, and Gibson is said to be familiarizing himself with the material.

Despite this, an offer has yet to be made and Warner Bros. is also looking to other possible directors for the sequel, including Daniel Espinosa. However, Gibson remains the studios top choice.

David Ayer directed the initial Suicide Squad movie. While it faced some hurdles, the flick went on to gross a very impressive $745-Million, and has even been nominated for an Oscar. Ayer will now move on to Gotham City Sirens, a film that will feature the return of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and focus on some of the top female villains within the DC Universe.

Mel Gibson has been experiencing a remarkable turnaround following a rather difficult stint in the early 2000s. The director is riding high thanks to his recent Oscar nomination for Hacksaw Ridge, and is now fielding a slew of offers from numerous studios.
