Hart of Dixie alum Cress Williams is returning to The CW.
The actor has landed the lead role in Greg Berlanti's latest DC Comics drama Black Lightning.
The show, originally picked up at Fox, recently moved to The CW. Black Lightning centers around Jefferson Pierce, who made a choice to hang up his suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend — Black Lightning.
Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eden created the famed DC Comics hero, who debuted in the pages of Black Lightning #1 in April 1977. He has since become one of the world's foremost African American superheroes alongside the likes of Luke Cage, Black Panther, and others.
Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil will pen the script and executive produce the drama alongside Greg Berlanti and his Warner Bros. Television-based Berlanti Productions topper Sarah Schechter.
Black Lightning is the latest addition to the sprawling DC TV Universe, which also includes hit series Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends Of Tomorrow.
