The Black Lightning cast has grown.
Less than a week after it was announced that Cress Williams would be playing the titular hero of the next DC TV drama, Nafessa Williams and China Anne McClain have landed lead roles alongside the Hart Of Dixie alum.
McCain will play Jefferson’s younger daughter, the teenage Jennifer Pierce. She's an independent, outspoken scholar-athlete with a wild streak of her own. Williams is Anissa Pierce — passionate and quick-witted, Jefferson’s twenty-something daughter balances the demands of medical school with her job teaching part-time at her father’s school.
Both girls follow in their father's footsteps becoming the superheroes Thunder and Lightning.
Black Lightning is the brainchild of DC TV king Greg Berlanti and husband and wife duo Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil respectively.
The series is based on the DC character created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden, and will be directed by Salim Akil. The duo will pen the script and executive produce the drama alongside Greg Berlanti and his Warner Bros. Television-based Berlanti Productions topper Sarah Schechter.
Black Lightning is the latest addition to the sprawling DC TV Universe, which also includes hit series Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends Of Tomorrow.
