Last week, we learned that the script for the next Alien movie was finished. And, it doesn't sound like we'll be referring to it as Alien: Covenant 2 for long as Sir Ridley Scott may have inadvertently revealed the title of the upcoming film in a recent interview.
Speaking with Erik Davis of Fandango, the prolific director spoke of what's coming next for the iconic Alien franchise.
"There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] Alien," he said. He goes on to tease the timeline of these movies moving forward, and that's where it appears as though Scott spoils the title of the next movie.
"It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant.. fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way…."
Actress Katherine Waterston quickly cuts the director off screaming: "You're giving away too much!” She then adds: "But yes, there will be more after this. I think that was the question."
Scott then adds: "If his is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more."
Judging by Scott's words, it sounds as though the next Alien film will serve as a prequel to this year's Alien: Covenant, but a sequel to Prometheus. This seems like a rather odd release order, so it is possible that he was referring to something else - such as the upcoming novel by Alan Dean Foster.
In any case, the next Alien movie may very well be called Alien: Awakening, and it may come between the events seen in Prometheus and Covenant. And that the next one would complete a trilogy, at which time Scott has another three Alien films in his mind.
A bit confusing, yes, but there's definitely some interesting stuff to take away here.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with Alien: Covenant, a new chapter in his groundbreaking Alien franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
Starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, and Callie Hernandez, Alien: Covenant arrives in theaters on May 19th.
