Jon Watts Confirms Venom Movie Not Part Of MCU

A few weeks back, it was announced that the long gestating Venom spinoff would finally hit theaters on October 5, 2018 - the date previously held by Warner Bros. for James Wan's Aquaman, until the studio bumped it back to December 21st.

Since then, fans have been wondering if the villain spinoff would somehow tie into the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming and the Marvel Cinematic Universe overall. Well, speaking with Fandango, director Jon Watts has finally put those wonders to rest by confirming that the upcoming Venom movie will not serve as part of the MCU.

"It’s not. It’s not connected to the Marvel world, so that’s really intriguing… what that will be. I don’t know anything about it. It’s not connected, so there’s not that overlap. I’m only focused on my movie right now."

Despite this, Sony is hoping on creating a new franchise centered around the character.

Last week, we also learned that the upcoming Silver Sable & Black Cat film, which is being penned by Thor: Ragnarok scribe Christopher Yost, will not connect with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but will be part of a new Sony superhero film slate focusing on characters from throughout the Spider-Man universe.

How do you feel about the Venom movie not being part of the MCU?
