The Office alum Rainn Wilson has joined the cast of Star Trek Discovery.
Wilson will portray Harry Mudd on the new show, a charismatic interstellar con man who had repeated run-ins with the crew of the Enterprise in the original Star Trek TV show. Roger C. Carmel not only played the character in the original series, but also voiced him in an episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series.
Aside from his role on the hit NBC comedy The Office, Wilson has also appeared in Backstrom, Six Feet Under, The Rocker, Monk, and Sahara. He has also leant his voice to roles in Monsters vs. Aliens and the upcoming Smurfs: The Lost Village.
Rainn Wilson joins a cast that includes Sonequa Martin-Green, James Frain, Anthony Rapp, Michelle Yeoh, Jason Isaacs, Terry Serpico, and Maulik Pancholy.
Originally slated to debut on CBS All Access beginning in January 2017, Star Trek Discovery has been pushed back numerous times, and is now scheduled to launch at some point between late this summer or early this fall.
Once it eventually does premiere, fans outside if the United States will be able to enjoy Star Trek Discovery through additional streaming platforms such as Netflix.
