While details are slim at this time, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Warner Bros. is in the early stages of developing a reboot of The Matrix. Released back in 1999, the Sci-Fi film is considered to be one of thru most original titles to ever come out of Tinsel Town.
While there is still much to be done before the new film gets underway, sources say that Zak Penn in talks to write a treatment. Additionally, there is potential interest in Michael B. Jordan to star.
At this point, the Wachowskis, who wrote and directed the three original films, are not involved with this new reboot, however that could still change before cameras get rolling.
Released back in the spring of 1999, the original movie sees humanity living in a simulated reality, unaware that humans are in pods in which their bodies are being harvested for energy. A computer programmer named Neo, portrayed by Keanu Reeves, slowly becomes aware of this suppressed existence, eventually becoming humanity’s one true hope (Neo = One) to overthrow the oppressors. The pic also starred Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss and Hugo Weaving.
The Matrix would become fourth-highest grossing film of the year worldwide, and would go on to win a trial of four Academy Awards.
