In 2018, Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park will be celebrating its 25th anniversary. In that time, we've watched this franchise explode into a multi billion dollar juggernaut encompassing three sequels and a dino-sized amount of merchandise. Many fans have been hoping that Universal would plan something special in celebration of this milestone - especially with J.A. Bayona's Jurassic World sequel set to hit theatres that same year.
And it looks as though the studio definitely has something in mind for 2018.
The Las Vegas Licensing Expo is happening in May, and their line-up for the year includes information about both the Jurassic World sequel and the 25th anniversary of the original Jurassic Park movie. We wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the film sees a theatrical re-release next year, along with a new Blu-Ray boxset.
Additionally, our friends over at the very cool Jurassic Outpost have uncovered a listing on Amazon for a Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Wall Colander. Here's hoping this is just a taste of the merchandise that will be hitting retail for the film's anniversary celebration.
What we're really hoping for though is s brand new toyline. There have been rumours of a planned Jurassic Park Classics line for quite some time now, and it's something we'd be very eager to get our hands on - especially after the utter disappointment that was Hasbro's Jurassic World line. Since then, Hasbro has lost the JP license to Mattel, so perhaps the new license holder has something in mind for 2018 to go along with their first Jurassic World toys.
In any case, this is very exciting news and we can't wait to see what Universal has planned for the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest movies to ever hit the big screen!
Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Jurassic Park on June 11, 2018.
