Last summer it was announced that Man Of Steel 2 had entered active development over at Warner Bros. Studios, and now it sounds as though they could have a director in mind for the project.
According to Collider, the studio is eyeing Kingsman: The Secret Service helmer Matthew Vaughn to take the reigns on the highly anticipated superhero sequel. The site adds that preliminary conversations have already taken place and, should a deal not be reached with Man Of Steel 2, the studio hopes to put the director on another DC Films project.
Keep in mind however that Vaughn isn’t even in talks at this point, so this may not happen.
With movies like X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass already under his belt, it's clear that Vaughn is no stranger to the comic book movie genera. A few years back, the director mentioned that he'd had a chat with Warner Bros about a possible Superman pitch with Mark Millar, but that never amounted to anything. He also offered his point of view on what he felt was the right way to approach the character on the big screen:
“I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious ‘The Dark Knight’ version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me.”
Granted, these things were said even before the first Man Of Steel entered production, but it's quite clear that Matthew Vaughn had a good sense of what a Superman movie should embody.
Here's hoping talks ramp up and that an announcement is made soon.
Like Matt Reeves, we think Matthew Vaughn would be a great fit for the DCEU.
