For 90's kids, the name Carmen Sandiego conjures up images of elementary school computer labs and educational after school television. Now, it has been revealed that the classic property is getting an animated remake over on Netflix - with the globetrotting Carmen Sandiego being voiced by Gina Rodríguez of Jane The Virgin.
Following in the footsteps of the computer games and spin-off TV shows that came before it, the new series will have an educational angle, teaching a new generation of kids that Learning Is Fun.
A premiere date has yet to be announced, but Netflix has already ordered 20 episodes.
The powers that be will have plenty of source material to borrow from for the new show. Carmen Sandiego video games began hitting stores in 1985, while the animated series ran from 1994 until 1999 on Fox Kids. The property was also developed into board games, a television game show, a Facebook game and a series of Choose Your Own Adventure books between 1992 and 2012.
Are you looking forward to a Carmen Sandiego remake?
We know we sure are! And, while she's no Rita Moreno, there is no one we feel is better suited to the role of Interpol’s Public Enemy Number One than Gina Rodríguez!
