The Avatar sequels finally have release dates.
The first sequel arrives in theatres on December 18th, 2020, with the follow-ups slated for release on December 17th, 2021, December 20th, 2024 and December 19th, 2025 respectively.
The announcement was made over on the movie's official Facebook page, along with a new image of director James Cameron and his crew. The image was captioned: "Great to be working with the best team in the business! Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels. The journey continues December 18, 2020, December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025."
Fans will no doubt be excited by this announcement.
Back in March, Cameron revealed to The Toronto Star that the first of the four planned sequels would not be making its planned Christmas 2018 release date.
"Well, 2018 is not happening. We haven’t announced a firm release date,” said the director. What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So, we’re not making Avatar 2, we’re making Avatar 2, 3 ,4, and 5. It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam."
Now, it looks as though there's a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
The original Avatar film was released back in 2009. By the end of its box office run, it would earn $2.8-Billion worldwide and remains the top-grossing film of all time at the global box office.
