Back on Good Friday, we reported that Netflix was planning on a brand new animated series centred around the classic computer game series Carmen Sandiego.
Now, new details on the show have emerged.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has ordered 20 22-minute episodes of Carmen Sandiego, which is set to premiere in 2019. As previously reported, Jane The Virgin star Gina Rodriguez will voice the globe-trotting thief. She will be joined by Stranger Things alum Finn Wolfhard who will voice Player, Carmen’s chief accomplice and friend.
In the Netflix reboot, Carmen Sandiego is back and ready for a new crop of international capers packed with thrilling adventure and intrigue. The fresh take is set to present an intimate look into Carmen's past to follow her escapades and also answer who in the world is Carmen Sandiego and why she became a super thief.
Duane Capizzi , known for his work on The Batman, will serve as co-executive producer and showrunner on the series. CJ Kettler will executive produce.
The series is produced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for Netflix.
Carmen Sandiego video games began hitting stores in 1985, while the animated series ran from 1994 until 1999 on Fox Kids. The property was also developed into board games, a television game show, a Facebook game and a series of Choose Your Own Adventure books between 1992 and 2012.
