We've known since December that Sonequa Martin-Green would be playing the lead role in the upcoming CBS All Access series Star Trek Discovery. And now we know exactly whom she'll be portraying on the new show.
The official Star Trek Twitter account has revealed that the actress has been cast in the role of First Officer Michael Burnham. For those who don't know, a First Officer is the second in command on a starship, just below the captain.
Sonequa Martin-Green represents the first African-American woman to lead the cast of a Trek ensemble. Additionally, this marks the first time the lead character in a Trek series hasn’t been a ship’s captain. This will allow the show to tell a different kind of story.
