The truth is still out there.
Fox has ordered another 10 episodes of the classic Sci-Fi drama, which returned to the small screen with a limited series early last year. The new revival, which will serve as a continuation of the 2016 episodes, will debut during the 2017-2018 television season.
Series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be back, along with series creator and showrunner Chris Carter. Production is scheduled to begin this summer.
"Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide," said David Madden, President, Fox Broadcasting Company. "Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files."
The series, which follows FBI paranormal investigators Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, premiered on Fox in 1993. It would go on to become one of the most popular shows in the network's history and would earn a total of 16 Primetime Emmy Awards over its initial nine-season run. When the revival series arrived in 2016, it averaged a multiplatform audience of some16-Million viewers.
