Actor Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the new series of Star Trek movies, was recently on the Today show to promote his latest film, Aardvark.
During the interview, talk eventually turned to the possibility of a fourth Star Trek movie - something Quinto says he's hopeful for, but is not guaranteed.
"I don’t know… I know that they are working on a script for another one and we’ll see how that all plays out, but the nice thing about that experience is that the time in between those big tentpole films allows us to go off and cultivate a lot of different creative experiences for ourselves — being back on stage, doing independent films… I’m hopeful that we’ll do another one, but there’s no guarantee."
In all fairness, nothing in Hollywood is ever guaranteed. Just look at examples like Justice League: Mortal, Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman, or the human-dinosaur hybrid version of Jurassic Park 4.
Granted, Justin Lin's Star Trek Beyond missed the box office projections that Paramount was hoping for, but the studio had already begun ramping up for a fourth film back in May of last year. Additionally, both Quinto and Chris Pine were locked into a fourth movie almost a year before Star Trek Beyond hit theatres. In short, there's no doubt that a fourth Star Trek movie is going to happen - it's just not guaranteed.
But what really is these days?
