Alien: Covenant may still be a week away for us here in North America, but the Ridley Scott sequel is already scaring up some serious coin overseas.
The movie bowed in 34 international markets this past weekend, bringing in a very solid $42-Million to begin its box office run. The film took the #1 spot in 19 of its opening markets including South Korea ($7.2-Million), United Kingdom ($6.4-Million), France ($4.5-Million), Australia ($3.1-Million), Spain ($1.9-Million) and Hong Kong ($1.8-Million) respectively.
Next weekend, along with its domestic debut in more than 3,600 theatrical locations, Alien: Covenant will also open in 52 additional markets including Germany, Russia and Sweden.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
Starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, and Callie Hernandez, Alien: Covenant arrives in theaters on May 19th.
