Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 officially kicked off the summer movie season last night, where it enjoyed a $17-Million North American debut. As Marvel movies go, the James Gunn sequel currently ranks third in preview screenings behind the $27.3-Million of Avengers: Age Of Ultron and the $25-Million earned by Captain America: Civil War.
Despite this, the movie did post the biggest Thursday night opening of the year.
Currently on track to earn between $150-$170-Million in its opening weekend, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is expected to easily best the $94-Million opening weekend posted by the first film back in August 2014.
The film has impressed critics, who refer to the film as an extravagant and witty follow-up to the 2014 original. The film also has a rating of 82% over on Rotten Tomatoes.
Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, David Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone and Michael Rosenbaum, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is in theaters now.
