The upcoming Hellboy reboot is attracting some serious attention over at Cannes.
Variety has exclusively learned that a budding battle for the Chinese distribution rights to Millennium Films' Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen is underway, with bids in the region of $13-Million for mainland China. International buyers have reportedly been told that the movie is guaranteed a 2,000-screen release over here in North America.
The reboot was announced a few weeks ago, with Game Of Thrones helmer Neil Marshall set to direct. Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola wrote the script for the new film, which will be much grittier than the previous films.
Stranger Things star David Harbour will play the film's titular hero.
Fans have been hoping for another Hellboy movie for nearly a decade. Previously, Guillermo del Toro directed the 2004 Hellboy film, along with its 2008 sequel. Actor Ron Perlman portrayed the character in those two movies.
Neither del Toro or Perlman are involved with the upcoming reboot.
