Marvel released the very first teaser trailer for Black Panther on Friday and, if the number of views racked up in the first 24 hours are any indication, fans are more than ready to take a trip to the fictional African nation of Wakanda.
The action-packed trailer was viewed an astonishing 89-Million times in the first day following its online debut. The spot debuted Friday during the first quarter of Game 4 of the NBA Finals on ABC. The trailer then exploded online through various social media outlets.
There is no doubt that these numbers have the powers that be over at Marvel Studios grinning as they show some serious interest in a film featuring a lesser known hero and no A-listers amongst its cast. Additionally, fans have not crossed paths with the film's titular hero since 2016's Captain America: Civil War, the film that undoubtedly introduced the African hero to a good percentage of audience members for the very first time.
In short, Black Panther may not be as widely known as Iron Man, Hulk, or Spider-Man, but that hasn't stopped an onslaught of fans from checking out the trailer for T'Challa's first ever big screen solo adventure. And, quite frankly, we can't say we blame them!
The 89-Million views also includes those from the 19-Million watching the NBA Finals.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira and Andy Serkis. The film claws into theatres on February 16th, 2018.
