After Zack Snyder exited Justice League last month to deal with a family tragedy, Warner Bros. announced that Joss Whedon would be stepping in to finish the film prior to its November 17th release date. As a result, Whedon is going to shoot several additional scenes for the project and oversee the rest of post-production on the film before turning his attention to his own DC project.
Fans will recall it was announced back in March that Whedon had signed on to write, direct, and produce a film centered around Batgirl. Speaking with Variety, DC Films co-head Jon Berg discussed Whedon's role within the DC Extended Universe moving forward.
"He’s a big part already. We love him. He’s a great partner, collaborator; we want him to be ensconced. We bring people by, have general meetings and talk about comics and their favorite superhero movies. With Joss, he saw the master board, and he saw a “Batgirl” title and he said, “You guys seriously want to do ‘Batgirl’?” And we said, “Absolutely.” He said, “That’s my jam.”"
With two Avengers movies to his name, it's clear that Joss Whedon knows a thing or two about how to craft a superhero blockbuster. However, with his taking the reigns on Justice League for the time being, it looks like we may have a little bit of waiting to do before Batgirl gets off the ground.
