There was no doubt that there were a lot of fans excited by the prospect of a new Power Rangers movie - ourselves included. However, that enthusiasm really didn't translate to a box office success all that well. Lionsgate had been hoping the Dean Israelite film would kick off a brand new franchise to take the place of The Hunger Games, but it certainly hasn't had the strongest start.
Box Office Mojo has published the vial box office numbers for Power Rangers, which will conclude its theatrical run with a mere $140.2-Million worldwide. With a disappointing domestic gross of $85.3-Million, fans had hoped that the intake from overseas markets would help bolster the movie's total take and see a sequel as a possibility.
While the low numbers will probably not help the chances of a Power Rangers sequel, we here at Infinite Earths try to remain positive in all things. So, while a sequel seems unlikely at this point, we feel fans shouldn't give up all hope just yet. After all, stranger things have happened, right?
After all, even Zoolander got a sequel.
