Next year, the DC TV Universe will be expanding once again with the addition of Black Lightning from from Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil and Greg Berlanti. Recently, the Akils did a panel at the ATX Festival where they had a chance to discuss the upcoming DC drama.
During the chat, Salim Akil took a moment to reveal that he'd love to eventually include another hero on the show in the form of Virgil Hawkins a.k.a. Static Shock.
"I love the idea of Static Shock, and in success, hopefully, we’ll be able to pull other characters in in that way. So I’m holding out hope because I love that character."
Last month during the CW Upfronts, it was revealed that, for the time being, Black Lightning is not part of the Arrowverse. However, like Supergirl, that doesn't mean this will always be the case. The Akils wrapped things up by expressing their interest in having Jefferson Pierce cross over with the other DC TV shows.
"The storytelling is a little bit more political. It’s topical, and it’s a little grittier. … It doesn’t mean that down the road there won’t be visits."
And here's hoping it's something that happens sooner rather than later.
Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter, Jennifer hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.
Starring Cress Williams, Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain and Christine Adams, Black Lightning debuts on The CW next season.
