Transformers: The Last Knight easily dominated the Wednesday box office with $15.7-Million from 4,069 theatrical locations across North America. This officially marks a series low for the franchise as the newest installment fell short of its predecessors.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon opened with $37-Million back in 2011 when released on a Wednesday, while Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen took in a whopping $62-Million on its first Wednesday back in 2009.
Pre-release tracking had the film set to clear somewhere between $70-$75-Million here in North America, the lowest opening for the multi-billion dollar franchise.
Despite this, the studio is hoping for some big business overseas. Previously, Transformers: Age Of Extinction amassed an incredible $858.6-Million from those markets, allowing it to become the first Transformers movie to top $1-Billion at the worldwide box office.
Aside from debuting in North America, the action-packed sequel opens in its first 42 foreign territories this weekend, including a slew of major markets, such as China, the U.K., Russia, Australia, Germany, Italy, North Korea and Hong Kong.
