Having directed two of the three rebooted Planet Of The Apes movies, there is no question that Matt Reeves is no stranger to trilogies. In a recent interview with Fandango, the director was asked if he sees his next project, The Batman, as a possible trilogy of films.
"I have ideas about an arc, but really, the important thing is just to start… you have to start with one," he says. "You know, you have to start with a story that begins something."
It's exciting to hear Reeves admit he has plans for a trilogy of films centered around Ben Affleck's Batman, even if it is somewhat unsurprising. However, what fans should be most pleased about is the fact that he knows a trilogy doesn't work without a strong starting point.
He continues, "And when Mark and I began [Dawn of the Planet of the Apes], we knew what our goals were, but we didn’t know how we were gonna get there, and I would say that that more relates to the way that I see a Batman story, is a kind of ambition for a series of stories, but really the most important thing is gonna be to tell a vital first story."
Good to hear, Mr. Reeves! Good to hear.
The Batman is set to star Ben Affleck as Batman, Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Jim Gordon.
