Planet Of The Apes Nets $5-Million In Previews

Matt Reeves' War For The Planet Of The Apes opened in 3,251 theatrical locations across North America last night, where it battled its way to $5-Million in preview screenings.

That's 22% better than Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, which earned $4.1-Million worth of preview screenings here in North America three years ago.

The third entry in the hugely popular prequel franchise expands to 4,022 sites today and is looking to finish its first weekend here in North America somewhere within the $60-$65-Million range. Should this occur, it will land smack in the middle of its predecessors. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes opened to $54.8-Million back in 2011, while Dawn of the Planet of Apes bowed with $72.6-Million during the summer of 2014.

The movie currently enjoys a 93% fresh rating over on Rotten Tomatoes.

In ‘War for the Planet of the Apes,’ the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Starring Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Gabriel Chavarria, Chad Rook, Andy Serkis and Judy Greer, War For The Planet Of The Apes swings into theaters on July 14, 2017.
