Joss Whedon is currently hard at work finishing up reshoots for Justice League ahead of its release on November 17th. After that, the director will be bringing Batgirl to the big screen in her very first solo adventure, which will serve as part of the ever growing DC Extended Universe.
Speaking with IGN, DC Films co-president Geoff Johns confirmed that production on the Batgirl movie will be kicking off next year and that the studio is looking to explore the Batman Universe in a big, new way that has never been seen before.
"Batman is more than just Batman," Johns said. "It’s been way too long since we’ve seen an expansion of that universe. We are doing ‘Batgirl’ with Joss Whedon, it’s gonna be super exciting and he’s gonna start that next year. That’s just the start. We want to explore the Batman universe in a big new way."
