IDW Publishing, which handles comic book licenses like Ghostbusters and Transformers, has announced that it will soon be publishing comics based on Sega's Sonic The Hedgehog.
The publisher made the announcement at San Diego Comic Con shortly after Sega revealed it had ended its long-standing publishing deal with Archie Comics, which had been publishing Sonic books for 24 exciting years.
Ivo Gerscovich, chief brand officer for the famed video game mascot, said that the company is "ecstatic about this partnership with IDW. We know they’ll serve as a good home for the new adventures of Sonic, his friends, and foes."
No creative teams have been revealed at this time, but IDW CCO Chris Ryall says that the publisher has "been speaking with beloved Sonic fan-favorite creators and new creators alike", and that future details for the title should be released soon.
The very fist Sonic The Hedgehog game debuted on the Sega Genesis video game console in 1991. Archie Comics would release the first book centred around the speedy mammal in 1993.
