Wonder Woman just can't be stopped.
Since its release back on June 2nd, the Patty Jenkins superhero solo flick has been nothing short of a summer blockbuster. Currently, it boasts the best hold of any superhero film in more than 15 years at the North American box office - topping the likes of Man Of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Suicide Squad, Deadpool, Doctor Strange and Ant-Man just to name a few.
Heading into its seventh week at the box office, Wonder Woman sits at $750-Million worldwide, and is soon expected to become the #8 comic book adaption of all time. It will soon pass the $385-Million earned by Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 here in North America, thus allowing it to become the top summer earner at the box office.
"It feels like Wonder Woman will play all the way through August," says Warners' Jeff Goldstein, president of domestic distribution. "Right now, the movie is still in about 3,000 locations. Usually, the theater count would be a fraction of that at this point."
Wonder Woman is set to also become the studios third-biggest movie domestically after The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, both from director Christopher Nolan.
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Elena Anaya, Eugene Brave Rock and Lucy Davis, Wonder Woman is in theatres now.
