Advanced Review - Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit #2

The second issue of Dynamite Comics' Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit arrives on newsstands today, picking up right where the phenomenal debut issue left off.

The Green Hornet and Kato are currently in Central City during the 1966 World's Fair in an attempt to track down the elusive Kid Kraken. However, in their attempts to capture the villain, the pair run afoul of the Spirit, who arrives and begins battling both Kraken's men and our heroes.

This new issue also features a secondary story centered around Hypnos Schnoose. This mysterious industrialist uses one of his inventions to put himself to sleep in an effort to survive World War II. Not only does he leave his family behind to fend for themselves, but his company ends up failing without his leadership and is eventually torn down. Years pass and the site of the building is eventually used as the location of the 1966 World's Fair and it is during this event that Schnoose awakens - right in the middle of the altercation between The Spirit, Hornet and Kato.

What we love most about this new issue is how Fred Van Lente has continued to weave an intricate series of mysteries into the pages of this new series. Once again, we found ourselves pondering numerous questions while leafing through the issue. Who really is Hypnos Schnoose? How will this relic of a bygone era survive two decades into the future? Who really is the man behind the mask claiming to be The Spirit? And, where the heck is The Octopus? All of these questions make for a fun and engaging read that has us eagerly awaiting the release of the next issue in the series.

Not to be outdone here is the beautiful art crafted by Bob Q, which so perfectly captures the era in which the story takes place. Everything seems to bright, colorful and optimistic, with a very nice art deco edge to it that makes each panel a true treat for the eyes. Mike Allred and Will Eisner would be proud of what Q has done here, and we're betting there are plenty of fans out there that will appreciate every painstaking detail - which Q has presented within this issue in glorious fashion!

Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit #2 continues what we loved about the first issue, while taking the next logical step within the progression of the story. The art is bold and beautiful and the plot intertwines to become more and more engaging with each turn of the page.

Bring on that third issue, Dynamite Comics! We must see what's coming next!

Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit #2 arrives on newsstands later today!

Rating: 4/5 - "Another engaging read perfectly complemented by stunning visuals, this second issue will have you wanting more straight from the get-go!"
