Summer may be drawing to a close, but the season's hottest blockbuster continues to heat up the box office! Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman crossed the $400-Million mark here in North America Tuesday, becoming the 27th movie to ever break that barrier. It has also become the third highest-grossing Warner Bros. film domestically, sliding in behind The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises from director Christopher Nolan.
It has also become the highest-grossing film to be helmed by a woman.
Wonder Woman is now the second highest-grossing domestic release behind the $504-Million earned by Disney's Beauty And The Beast earlier this year.
Compared to other movies within the superhero genera, Wonder Woman has topped the worldwide totals of fellow DCEU chapters Man Of Steel and Suicide Squad, as well as the likes of Fox's Deadpool. Now, the film has set Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man in its sights. That movie grossed $821-Million before the end of its theatrical run back in the summer of 2002.
Wonder Woman currently sits at $795-Million worldwide, and is expected to cross over into the $800-Million club later this week.
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Elena Anaya and Lucy Davis, Wonder Woman is in theaters now.
