Review: Dynamite - Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit #4

Dynamite brings Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit back to comic shops next month with an exciting fourth issue that sees the classic trio looking to solve the mystery of the botched rocket launch from the previous book.

The issue kicks off by revealing the abandoned streets of Chicago, sullied by the arrivial of Kid Kraken and his bevy of dim-witted goons. While his henchmen are more eager to loot the city of its valuables, Kraken sets his sites on the offices of the Daily Sentinel - and a secret contained within.

Meanwhile, Hornet & Spirit await the arrival of Kato, who has hijacked the Hurst containing the mysterious body found in the rocket that crashed in the bay. Despite the best efforts of the local law enforcement, Kato evades them and makes it back to the safe house where his partners are waiting.

However, before they are really able to get their examination underway, the group receives a telephone call from Lanore Case over at the Daily Sentinel. Daring to stay behind in an effort to cover the Chicago disaster, Lanore finds herself kidnapped and used as a potential bargaining chip for the vile Kraken. This sends the heroes into action, while Kraken tears the office apart and comes across his prize - a file from the office of Britt Reid that reveals the true identity of Central City's masked vigilante.

Cutting back to our heroes as they race to the rescue behind the wheel of the heavily modified Chrysler Imperial known as Black Beauty, Hornet and Spirit get caught up in a conversation where it is revealed that each masked man has learned the secret identity of the other - just before they storm The Daily Sentinel and are presumably gunned down by Kid Kraken.

It's a fine cliff-hanger ending that is sure to have readers craving the exciting and final issue from Fred Van Lente and Bob Q. This issue is all about the action - from high-speed car chases to a barrage of blazing bullets - and we couldn't put it down. Sure, this one feels more like a filler issue than the previous three, but as events transpire to bring heroes and villains together for the ultimate confrontation, readers are guaranteed to be swept up in the fun of it all.

In short, issue #4 of Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit is a roller coaster ride packed to the brim with action. Lente and Bob Q come together to craft a high-speed issue that hits the gas and reminds fans of what makes these classic heroes so enjoyable to rejoin month after month.

And speaking of which, we've got another month before the final issue arrives on newsstands, and honestly, we don't think we're going to make it! This series has been so wonderful and we can't believe it'll soon be coming to an end! Here's hoping Hornet, Kato and Spirit will be able to get out of this latest jam before that time arrives!

Rating: 4/5 - "This issue packs in the fun and is sure to have readers crying out in anticipation for next month's finale."

Green Hornet '66 Meets The Spirit #4 drops into stores on Wednesday, October 4th.

Until next time, Infinite Earths fans!
