Review: DC Comics - Hawkman #1

Carter Hall is on a mission!

An Egyptian Prince. A Mideval Knight. An Old West Gunslinger. The heroic Hawkman has been reincarnated across time and space on multiple occasions.

But, why? This very question leads the archaeologist on a quest off the coast of Greece and deep within the ancient ruins of an offshoot to Gorilla City - where an ancient artifact capable of filling in the truth about Hall's past lies buried. However, as anyone with an interest in history will tell you, few civilizations would leave something as mystical as the Nautilus Of Revealment unprotected.

Soon, Carter finds himself facing off against a deadly Guardian Golem, one who is not to pleased to have a thief plundering the treasures of Ooahk Kung. Quickly discovering that simply fleeing with his prize is not an option, Carter must face the threat head-on and tap into the savagery of his winged alter ego once more.

We than meet up with Carter in London paying a visit to the mysterious Madame Xanadu - the one woman he knows will be able to unlock the secrets of Nautilus Of Revealment and aid him in his mission to learn the truth about his past.

And the results are certain to shock readers in a way they won't see coming.

Following his triumphant return, Hawkman is back to lead his own solo title once again, and this debut issue really kicks things off with a bang!

Robert Venditti has crafted in exciting first chapter that plays out like a classic 1940's adventure serial, while the amazing artistic skills of Bryan Hitch present the reader with some of the most beautiful splash pages to ever be seen with the naked eye. Both men have combined their talents into something truly spectacular, and we're certain that fans will love every second of it.

If DC did Indiana Jones, the end result would be Venditti and Hitch's Hawkman! It's a pulse pounding adventure of the finest kind, and we're more than a little eager for more!

And we're certain you will be too!

Rating: 5/5 - "If DC did Indiana Jones, the end result would be Hawkman! A pulse pounding adventure of the finest kind that puts the winged warrior back in the spotlight."
