Djimon Hounsou has joined the DC Expanded Universe.
Known by many as Korath The Pursuer in Guardians Of The Galaxy, the actor has joined the cast of David F. Sandberg's Shazam as the mystical Wizard. In DC Comics lore, the character is the one who bestows powers upon young Billy Batson, transforming him into the heroic Shazam.
The Wizard is a 3,000 years old sorcerer from Ancient Egypt who uses his powers to fight evil and has been seeking a successor to carry on his mission to keep the world safe from evil.
Filming on Shazam has now wrapped, but this bit of casting remained under the radar until now
Earlier this year, it was reported that Ron Cephas Jones had been circling the part, however that didn't end up happening due to a conflict with the Mr. Robot actor's schedule.
Shazam follows a 14-year-old boy who gains the power to turn into a grown-up superhero by saying a magic word. In the comics, he becomes a member of the Justice League.
Starring Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, and Grace Fulton, Shazam hits the big screen on April 5th, 2019.
